Committee Opportunities
The Graduate and Professional Student Government works to serve the needs of the student body by advocating with members of administration and leadership. Those efforts are led by individuals serving in various leadership role both on the board and within the organization.

Committees
If you are passionate about advocating for issues that affect Graduate and Professional students on campus, supporting student research and scholarship, and enhancing the graduate community at Texas A&M University, then consider joining GPSG and apply today for any of the various leadership opportunities below. Individuals who apply must be available Tuesdays for the fall and spring semester between 5-8 p.m. for Senate and Board meetings.
Subcommittees addresses issues dealing with the everyday experience of all graduate and professional students. This includes (but is not limited to) campus and off-campus life, personal finance, and policy issues.
Student Experience
- Addresses issues concerning education, research, and financial support that affect the quality of the graduate and professional student academic experience.
- Addresses issues concerning student health, personal and family welfare, personal budget, child care, etc. that affect the quality of graduate and professional
Legislative Affairs
- Addresses legislation that affects graduate and professional students at the local, state, and national levels.
- Examines legislative issues, especially during years that the Legislature of the State of Texas is not in session, so that GPSG is prepared to address issues effectively within the Legislature’s limited timetable.
- Maintains a knowledge of all Faculty Senate, University Staff Council, and Student Government Association resolutions and proceedings and sends a liaison to attend all meetings.
Stipend and Compensation
Advocates on behalf of graduate and professional students at the university to receive stipends, compensation, funding, or other benefits that meet the local cost of living. This may be achieved by conducting regular cost-of-living surveys, maintaining an up-to-date website tracking stipends across different departments, and engaging in conversation with university leaders.
Subcommittees addresses issues related to research, scholarship, and professional development. These topics include advocacy efforts, but also may include promoting existing events, and highlighting exemplary scholarly achievements
Professional Development
- Aims to provide graduate and professional students with professional skills.
- Coordinates with programs across the university offering professional development events and opportunities that are valuable to the larger graduate student body and advertises them to the larger community.
Research Promotion
- Plans events promoting research.
- Advertises opportunities for researchers such as awards, fellowships, and programs.
- Address issues relevant to graduate and professional student research
Subcommittees help to foster a sense of community and camaraderie amongst graduate and professional students. These goals are accomplished through programming, recruitment, and engagement efforts.
Programming
- Organizes events and initiatives that promote community-building, collaboration with other student organizations, and service to both the university and local communities.
- Plays a central role in creating opportunities for graduate and professional students to connect, serve, and make a positive impact on campus and beyond.
- Plans and executes a diverse range of events that foster fellowship, collaboration, and community among the graduate and professional student body.
- Partners with other student organizations, academic departments, and community entities to create joint events and initiatives that serve both the university and local community.
- Coordinates community service projects, volunteering opportunities, and other charitable activities that align with GPSG’s mission to serve graduate and professional students.
- Creates and maintains an annual calendar of events, ensuring that programming is spread throughout the academic year and appeals to a wide range of student interests.
- Works with the Marketing and Communications Committee to promote events and maximize attendance and engagement.
- Identifies and pursues relevant opportunities for GPSG to engage in community service and advocacy, both on and off campus.
- Actively seeks partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and university offices to provide resources or sponsorships for community-related events.
Recruitment and Involvement
- Increases engagement and participation within GPSG.
- Recruits new members to GPSG, maintaining and monitoring the involvement of current members, and ensuring that all members actively contribute to the organization’s work.
- Develops and implements strategies to recruit graduate and professional students to join GPSG and its various committees.
- Organizes recruitment events, information sessions, and outreach campaigns to raise awareness of GPSG and encourage involvement from students across all academic disciplines.
- Builds relationships with departments, student organizations, and university offices to identify potential members and promote GPSG’s mission and initiatives.
- Serves as the point of contact for new members, helping them navigate the process of getting involved in committees, events, and leadership opportunities.
